Abandoned Pools - Humanistic

Abandoned Pools (yes the Clone High band) is a project by Tommy Walters from Eels. Humanistic contains many electronica influences and is overall a very satisfying listen.

The Wesley Willis Fiasco- Spookydisharmoniousconflicthellride

All joking aside, this is a really great punk album. The lyrics are typical Wesley Willis- ranging from singing about his friends in the music industry (Steve Albini) to stuff about drinking whiskey and apologizing for getting fat. The instrumentals are, on the other hand, absolutely awesome.

rock over london, rock on chicago.

Sparklehorse is led by Mark Linkous who records mostly in his home studio. It's a Wonderful life features guests such as PJ Harvey and Tom Waits. The album sound is very melancholy and sad. Worth checking out

Agalloch - Pale Folklore

Agalloch is a band that combines elements of doom, black, and folk metal to create an atmospheric masterpiece. Pale Folklore is one of those albums that gets better with every listen.

Black Math Horseman- Wyllt

"Call it ambient post-doom. Call it alchemic psych-rock, only without all those annoying freeform guitar freakouts. Call it “pure spirits by ritual dismemberment.”"

With a description like that... how do you not listen to it?

Get it already, jeez

Amesoeurs- Amesoeurs

This album is a perfect(ly odd) combination of a multitude of
genres ranging anywhere from raw black metal to 80's post-punk
to shoegaze. Such an assortment of sounds seems nearly impossible
to mesh together, but Amesoeurs have pulled it off incredibly well.
Sadly, this is their only full-length recording - they disbanded after
its release.

84001- We Look For Things To Make Us Go

Just because I couldn't get enough of them.

This is just as beautiful as The Search For
Incandescent Glaciers, but streteched out
over a few more tracks.

dead prez - Let's Get Free

This is is the first album from dead prez. They describe their sound as "somewhere between N.W.A and P.E. (Public Enemy)." Their songs are mainly of a political nature which express revolutionary politics and criticism of corporate hip-hop.

Sleep- Dopesmoker

Because this album is pretty much the Bible of stoner rock.

Boris- Heavy Rocks

This album is - as my friend Joe so accurately
put it - a noisy Japanese Motorhead.

It's heavy.

It rocks.

84001- The Search For Incandescent Glaciers

The word "beautiful" doesn't quite fully encompass
what this album is like- but it comes close. Some
of the prettiest, spaciest soundscapes I've heard
are contained on this four song trip. Works great
as chillout music.

Tera Melos- Idioms

Hey, remember this place? Neither did I until a couple minutes ago. But whatever, I'm back.

Idioms is a 5 song cover EP by California math rock band Tera
Melos, featuring reworked versions of songs by The Beach Boys,
The Clash, Pixies, Weezer, and Polaris. The majority of the tracks
are under two minutes, so it's an easy, fun listen.

Pod - The Breeders

Kim Deal and her sister Kelley Deal created The Breeders from the result of Kim Deal's previous band Pixies hiatus. "Pod" provides great vocals and doesn't lack in anything. Steve Albini produced this album which explains the great drum sound. Albini has also produced albums by Pixies, Nirvana, The Stooges, PJ Harvey, Superchunk and Bush. Great album for anyone who likes early 90's or late 80's Alternative Rock. Worth checking out if you are a Pixies fan.

Can you dig it?.

Black Unicorn Split- He Is Legend/Classic Case (2006)

Here's a cool split I found out about after I saw He Is Legend live.
It includes an awesome acoustic cover of Soundgarden's Fell On
Black Days by Classic Case and an even more awesome cover of
Reba McEntire's Fancy by He Is Legend. Definitely check it out.

Samhain - Initium

Glenn Danzig offers more dark music with Samhain. This is the time period between The Misfits and Danzig. Samhain is much slower and darker than The Misfits sometimes cartoonish songs.

Fiend Without A Face- Self-titled

Here is the debut album from surfabilly outfit
Fiend Without A Face, who take their name from
the 1958 film of the same name. Featuring Brent
Hinds on lead guitar and vocals, this album
infuses traditional surf rock with elements
of rockabilly to form an unforgettable blend that
you won't soon forget. A noticeable step away
from the heavy sludge of Mastodon for Hinds.

MMVII-Blue Lion Project

Seeing as I live in Orange County, it's only fitting that my first post is a local punk/rock band. I stumbled across this band at a Halloween Party they were playing at, and as far as local bands go, they are good.

They have been giving this demo album out for free at their gigs, so I don't feel bad about giving you guys a link.

Semi Detahced- Therapy?

Therapy? has always been a band with great pop-sensibility but never really seemed to be a success. Semi-Detached is one of their finest works and features a blend of heavy riffs and catchy songwriting. Therapy? is usually regarded as a Heavy Metal or Hard Rock band but they still show a lot of punk influences especially on this record.
Can you dig it?

Kyle Cease - One Dimple

No, it's not actually music, but this is one of the funniest goddamn standup comedy albums I've ever heard. It's one of the few that made me laugh out loud.

Tool- 72826 (1991)

Here's the 1991 demo tape from the renowned prog metal band Tool.
Contains demo versions of the following tracks:

1. Cold and Ugly
2. Hush
3. Part Of Me
4. Crawl Away
5. Sober
6. Jerk-Off

Sort of a neat collector's item, if you will, for Tool fans. Not to be
taken too seriously.

Sex O Olympic O - Revolting Cocks (2009)

"This is the best RevCo album I've ever done. As a matter of fact, I think this is the best album–including Ministry, Pailhead, Lard–anything I've ever done, period. Production-wise, song-wise, I'm really, really happy with this record." - Al Jourgensen

Check it out!

Intronaut- Prehistoricisms

I discovered this Californian sludge group while looking up
tour dates for Mastodon. Everyone knows that metal can
be a very hit and miss genre, but this album is a diamond
in the rough. Ripping vocals backed by progessive and
often jazzy riffs make this album a winner.

MSTRKRFT- Fist of God

Frank Zappa - Overnite Sensation

You don't have this yet? Well why the fuck not? Zappa's great lyrics and vocals over complex layers of instruments. complimented with ridiculous guitar solos, make this album one of the best in Zappa's collection.

Cover Up - Ministry (2008)

Ministry's Cover Up album shows a different side of the band. This album features cover songs which 3 have already been released (one which is actually a 1000 Homo DJs' song). Not even close to being Ministry's greatest or worst album. Cover Up is their last release and is pretty much just for fun.

7/10

Notable Tracks: What a Wonderful World, Lay Lady Lay, Mississippi Queen, and Under My Thumb.

Never Breathe What You Can't See- Jello Biafra and the Melvins (2004)

Combining the talents of Washington sludge metal band The Melvins and those of political activist and former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra, Never Breathe What You Can't See is a must-have for any hardcore punk fan.
